Proofreading (Level 1)

Fees: £29.00 per hour

Punctuation, Spelling and Basic Grammar.
The proofreader will ensure the text is readable to an English-language audience.

Example:
Mary took a 500-peice puzzle off the shelf. she didn’t have the pateince for any thing harder.”

BSP Correction:
Mary took a 500-piece puzzle off the shelf; she didn’t have the patience for anything harder.”

Proofreading (Level 2)

Fees: £34.00 per hour

  • Punctuation, Spelling and Basic Grammar.
    The proofreader will ensure the text is readable the to an English-language audience.
  • Internal Fact-checking:
    The proofreader will check and correct any internal contradictions.
  • External Fact-checking:
    The proofreader will check and correct external contradictions.
  • The proofreader will highlight any potential liabilities.

Example:

Mary dashed the puzzle from the table in anger, scattering thousands of pieces on the floor. She would right a nasty review of [Real-World Company] for selling a puzzle with missing pieces

BSP Correction:
She would write a nasty review…

BSP Note:
Puzzle previously established as 500 pieces. Correct “thousands” to “hundreds”.

[Real-World Company] does not produce puzzles.

Stating that [Real-World Company] sells a defective product might be libellous. Consider replacing with a fictional company.

Proofreading and Editing (Level 3)

Fees: £40.00 per hour

• All of the proofreading services in Levels 1 and 2.
• The editor will work with the author to improve the text, such as rewriting sentences or restructuring the plot.
• The editor will condense the text to fit a word limit, if required.
Example:

This paragraph has be reworded and shortened to under 20 words: “Mary was stomping furiously on the puzzle pieces and angrily kicking them all over the place. She was usually very calm but now she was very angry!”

BSP correction: “Stomping furiously, Mary kicked the puzzle pieces in every direction. Her usual calm had been replaced by anger!”
